Cremation Urns

Some of the most meaningful work I do in my shop is to make sacred vessels to contain the remains of a loved one.  This work began with my making a cremation urn for my father – who was and is in good health but was making other end-of-life preparations.  That urn is more of a traditional shape – the rectangular white oak urn at right, with inlaid walnut on the lid.

After that, my mom asked if I would make an urn to contain both her and my stepdad’s ashes.  On this project, I tried an experiment, making bowls and bowl sections and seeing if they would glue up as I envisioned.  The result is the large round walnut urn you see at left.  Making these was such a powerful and satisfying experience that I branched out to include cremation urns in my product lines.

I make urns of various designs, sizes, and woods.  Any urn can be customized with an engraved wooden plate (of same or different wood species, as you request) with name, dates, and other details about your loved one.  We create urns for human remains but also have a line of urns for your pet's ashes.
